From October 2000 to October 2001,Dr. Xianping Lu served as a senior visiting scholar at the State Key Laboratory of Biomembrane and Membrane Biotechnology at Tsinghua University; from March 2001 to March 2018, he successively held the positions of Chief Scientific Officer, President, and Vice Chairman at Chipscreen Limited. From March 2018 to December 2019, he served as the Chairman, President, and Chief Scientific Officer of the company; Served as Chairman and Presiden of the company from January 2020 to December 2025; currently serves as Chairman.
Dr. Xianping Lu previously served as Director of Research at the North American R&D Center of Galderma S.A. Pharmaceuticals (France) and co-founded Maxia Pharmaceuticals and Galderma Research Biotechnology in San Diego, California, USA, in 1994. In 1989, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD); he graduated from Peking Union Medical College/Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in 1988 with a Doctor of Science degree, and from the Department of Biochemistry at Sichuan University in 1983 with a Bachelor's degree. He possesses over 30 years of global drug R&D experience and extensive management expertise in the pharmaceutical field, with profound accomplishments in molecular medicine, oncology, neuroendocrinology, immunology, metabolism, and dermatology. He has published over 100 papers in top-tier international journals such as Science, Nature, and The Lancet, and as the primary inventor, he has obtained more than 100 invention patents in the field of small-molecule innovative drug therapy.
Dr. Xianping Lu is stands as a distinguished scientist-entrepreneur who built a comprehensive drug innovation system from the ground up, in a landscape where the foundational elements for such an endeavor remained largely undeveloped. He has been hailed by international media as "China's pioneer of original innovative drugs". He played an active role in shaping China's innovative drug ecosystem, contributing to key institutional frameworks such as regulatory review, marketing authorization holder (MAH) policies, health insurance access, and capital market reforms. Drawing on his cross-system expertise, he has facilitated Chipscreen's integration into the global drug innovation network, allowing its R&D outcomes to undergo systematic validation — spanning from clinical data generation to regulatory approval — within international frameworks. This exemplifies the distinctive role of a scientist-entrepreneur.
In 2017, as the primary inventor, Dr. Xianping Lu received the "China Patent Gold Award" jointly issued by the China National Intellectual Property Administration and the World Intellectual Property Organization. In October 2020, he was honored as one of the "40 Innovators and Model Figures in 40 Years of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone." In 2021, he was awarded the 2021 CABS K. Fong Award in Life Sciences by the Chinese American Biopharmaceutical Society. In 2023, he received the First Prize of the Shenzhen Technological Invention Award for 2022. In 2024, he was honored with the Fifth “Jinsha Friendship Award” of Chengdu.
